Time

For years I’ve been measuring time

Not by minutes or hours

But by pots of coffee brewed

And sandwiches made

Back rubs and birthdays

Pizza Fridays

One pepperoni

One cheese, plain

And Wednesday night

Colored dinner trays

Light blue

Dark blue

Pink and green

I’ve measured time

In bike rides

And dance parties

And little kid laughs

Time well spent

Painted toes and legos

Never a wasted moment

Now time is measured quite differently

I’m unfamiliar with its units

Now, how do I tell time.

They don’t make a watch for this kind of hurt.
